Academy News – March 10, 16

Hello all,

This weekend should be very nice, hope to see many of you out to enjoy the sunshine. We are running privates and beginner specials so it will be important to go to the meeting area every hour on the half. Also it’s a good time to buy your ticket for the Academy Banquet (on April 16, 16). Still collecting nominations for Awards, send to fbernier@campfortune.com

Ontario March break begins Monday, thanks to all that have signed up to teach, and if you’re able, it’s not too late to join the team for the week. We are looking for a few extra snowboarders to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Call the cage (Ext 2223) if you’re available .

For those that want to return your jackets, we would like it washed and on a hanger in a clear plastic bag – that way when you pick up your jacket next season, it will be ready to go…

This weekend should be exciting with the Canadian Freestyle Championship on Heg.

You may also want to tell friends about Toonie Tuesday on the 22nd of March –  2$ skiing day or night.

If you have people interested in joining  our team, please  pass on this link to the Spring Training Document.

All for now…
See you on snow

Once the 9 week program is done, we are still teaching privates and beginner specials, we also have the Ont. march break (March 14 to 18) and we are still looking for people to help out on the Ontario week . It’s important to realize that when coming out to the hill we will expect that your available to teach if needed. Academy News – Feb 26, 16

Hello all,
The snow is great and the rain did not damage conditions :D . This being week 8 we will be handing out the feedback sheets along with Academy stickers and a voucher for the Aerial Park.
Look forward to seeing all over the weekend. On Sunday we will have a large group of beginners and we will need to man the carpet area to help these people get some notion of turning and stopping before they head up a chairlift. To that end I would be happy to see as many hands on deck as possible, privates will also be busy. So spending an off day at the hill would be appreciated.
The Academy Banquet is set for the 16th of April, cost 25$. Tickets are on sale at the cage. Awards are a big part of the evening and your input is appreciated, so I encourage you to nominate instructors with a short reasoning and email me at fbernier@campfortune.com .

Awards are;

  • Ski Wee (male &female),
  • All Mtn (male &female),
  • All Mtn Performance,
  • Adult,
  • TA Ski (male &female) ,
  • TA Snowboard,
  • Snowboard weekend,
  • Privates,
  • Lifetime Achievement Award,
  • Fulltime ski and snowboard,
  • MVP Markham Award,
  • Dave Hearnden Leadership Award,
  • and last, but not least, the FERN.

Academy News – Feb 21, 16

Hello all,

Some news for the next few weeks:

Dates to keep in mind.
End of Programs: 5th and 6th of March: we will hold a social after the 3rd lesson of the day in the pro room ( 4 to 5 or so). The goal is to raise funds for the Norm Grondin Memorial Foundation Bursary Program. To that end we will have; pizza, soft drinks and beer available for a small donation.
Donations are also accepted at the cage- please keep in mind that this is a school initiative that supports our top TAs and helps them pay for their level 1. So be sure to have some coin to contribute.

Quebec March Break –  Feb. 29th to March 5th: we will be happy to see instructors come out and help out with lessons, register at the cage.

Ontario March Break –   14th to 18th: we will be happy to see instructors come out and help out with lessons, register at the cage.

As we come to the end of the programs it’s very important to remember that it’s how we finish that’s important, our customers will go away with a great feeling and that’s what will bring them back next year. For the last few weeks be sure goals are attained, have fun, explore new runs and do your usual great job.

The Academy Banquet is set for April 16th , price $25. We will be looking into running a bus for this event, but first we need to know if it’s of interest to enough people, so if you think it would be convenient please check in at the cage.

The Fern Award: given to the person that has had the best adventure/bad luck/poor decision making event of the season. If you have a nominee please forward a short story about it to me. This is by applause and the more entries we have the more entertaining it is.

Monday evening session, I will not be able to do again this week, maybe the next week…

We will be holding an information and recruiting day on Sunday the 20th , if you have friends that would be interested let them know. If you’re a TA this is also a good day to take training. This is a free daylong session to evaluate skills and inform people as to how to get involved with the school. More details to follow.
